We are safely ensconced in the U. of U. Guest House and enjoyed (at least one of us did) watching the University of Utah football team extend their unbeaten streak to 15 games last night over the Utah State football team. I thought Kyle Wittingham took it easy on his friend Gary Anderson in the second half by toning down the offense and running a lot of easy to stop plays up the middle of the line.
I started this blog in the hotel room after breakfast for which we had risen far earlier than necessary just to learn whether I could use the laptop in the hotel. I got a wireless connection, which was slow to achieve and I was able to load the blog also very slow. Then just before we had to leave for the hospital I was able sign in. I now believe that the problem I had trying to use the laptop in the U. of U. hospital during my stay there was simply that the laptop in a wireless configuration is extraordinarily slow. There is a high speed internet connection in the room and next time I will try it.
We have come home to pick up things that we forgot during our move and I am taking time to add to the blog while Emma does some laundry. The melphalan infusion was far easier than I had been led to believe it would be. It was preceded by a one-hour saline drip and half way through that Amelia ( the cutest of the infusion nurses) brought me a large container of small ice cubes that I was directed to chew all the way through the saline drip, the 20 minute melphalan infusion to follow and half way through the following one-hour saline drip. I followed these instructions faithfully and after the process was complete I found that my only ill effects were large ridges on both inside cheeks where I had bitten myself in the late stages of chewing ice. The ice made my mouth so cold that I could hardly talk and it made my body so cold that I had to ask for warm blankets. When it was over I felt so good that I took over the driving and we did some errands on the way home; a visit to the Beer Nut to determine whether the law legalizing the making of beer and wine had passed and been signed by the Governor, yes to both; a visit to Borders to redeem a 40% off coupon; and a visit to Reams for additions to our larder. We have had snacks for lunch and the laundry is done so no more for now.
