A week off

At the fairly short visit to the BMT clinic this morning I was told that the blood work last Friday showed that my CMV count had turned negative and that I would not need to come back until next Tuesday. I am guessing that they expect the CMV count from the blood samples taken this morning to be negative again. If so then the 2 visits per week every other week regime may start next Tuesday. Dr. Tricot required that the CMV count had to be negative for 2 consecutive visits before the maintenance regime could start. They won't have the results from the sample to detrmine the CMV count collected today until Thursday and I was expecting to go Friday to learn the results, but one of them must be clairvoyant and therefore does not need actual results.

I also was told that today's blood work showed that my electrolytes were normal as were my various blood components and therefore they didn't need to see me for a week. (You will recall that I had a 3-hour infusion of electrolytes last Friday.) They didn't offer any cure for my edema except more time. I asked about accupuncture as a means of eliminating or alleviating the discomfort from the edema--as suggested by Judy--and was told that even though accupuncture might help they don't like to mix various therapies and I would have to get Dr. Tricot's approval before trying accupuncture. I also would have to get his authorization to use their Physical Therapy facility for my lack of strength in my legs. Walking for gradually extended distances may suffice to increase the strength in my legs. There may not be anything to blog about for a week, but if something comes up I will post it.

  1. Hi Ron.....
Good to hear that you're home and recovering. Sorry that you're having problems with edema, but as you walk more and your organs recover from the chemical assault, it will go away. Emma's great cooking will boost your immune system!
This is going to take some time....don't be so impatient! Each day is a gift....enjoy it!
Peggy...haven't figured out the URL posting. won't take anything I put into it!
