Traffic today was very light and I arrived at the Huntsman Hospital about 10 minutes early, but when I got up to the BMT clinic I found the door locked and most of the furniture stacked in the hallway. A sign on the door directed me to the Infusion Room, which I found still on the second floor, but at the far end of the new addition to the hospital. The registration procedure remained familiar, but with personnel that I had never seen before; only 4 nurses were on duty; my weight and vitals were taken by one of them and I was seated looking out on a block wall and a somewhat cloudy sky. The change in location was required by unscheduled carpet replacement in the usual clinic, which surely will be completed before I go back next Monday although Laurie, my nurse for the day, was not optimistic.
I asked Laurie whether they had a refrigerator that might contain some sweet juice as she prepared supplies for the blood draw and told her that I felt a little disoriented, perhaps from the search for the Infusion Room. With the juice she brought me a little container of peanut butter and 2 of the small packets of graham crackers that I usually find packed with sandwiches. I felt better after consuming these refreshments and continued to feel good for the rest of the morning. I got home just before noon to fix a sandwich for Emma and me to share and have continued to feel good
Laurie asked me what we had done over the weekend and I told her that we have continued to thin the neighborhood squirrel herd and had transported another one up to the forest yesterday afternoon. We seem to have removed all the small brown squirrels and are now being visited by considerably larger gray squirrels that have been able to get at the sunflower seeds in the traps without getting trapped as the trap is tripped. Their large tails may have been holding the trap door open as they scurry out. The instructions that came with the traps told how to set them for larger animals with one door closed and bait placed near it and a block under the pan on the open side of the trap where I have been putting seeds. I baited the trap with cashew nut meats and it worked to perfection. I have one set today, however, and have had no visiting squirrels. The word may be out that this is a dangerous place to visit.
