I had been scheduled to see Dr. Zangari on the 24th, but Nancy had asked me to try to change the appointment to a later date because she likes to go along with us and she and Mike will be gone on a trip to Chicago until the 27th. It took a week to arrange the change and I was surprised that it could be accomplished because Dr. Zangari is leaving soon for a position as Director of the Myeloma Bone Disease Research at the University of Arkansas and his replacement has not arrived from Germany.

Cycle ending tests June 18
We got up at 6:00 AM this morning in order to get to the BMT lab in time to have a line placed in my port that could be used by the PET/CT lab for injecting the tracer solution. The scan was scheduled for 7:30 and Scott had enough time to draw 7 vials of blood before we had to go to the Radiology lab where the scanning was done. This was a real imposition on Emma because she didn't have time to eat breakfast, which I wasn't allowed to have, but I asked her to go with me because I have been known to suffer dizzy spells when my blood sugar level gets low and I didn't want to be unattended in the car if a dizzy spell occurred. She had a lot of solitary waiting to do, but did make some progress on a new set of booties and cap for one of our two recently delivered granddaughters. We did have time to go up to the Bistro for a light meal and then went to the BMT clinic for some more waiting until it was time for the biopsy, which Amanda did almost painlessly.
Our next visit was to the Pharmacy where I had 2 prescriptions to pick up after which we just had time to go to the University Hospital and its Dexascan lab for my 12:30 appointment. I could not remember being there before even though Emma could as could the technician ( nice lady probably from India by name of Guachar Gill) who administered the test. She assured me that my bones are now in somewhat better condition than they were July 12 of last year when I last had this test. She surmised that I had been receiving Aredia infusions, which I confirmed and that I get one every three months and also take calcium twice a day. She said that I am doing the right things to strengthen my bones. I am sure I received a print out of the results last year just as I received this, but this year she gave me 2 copies so that I can take one to Dr. Zangari when I see him on the 28th.
