The visit to the BMT on Firday was extended to more than 3 hours because they gave me an infusion of potassium phosphate as a means of increasing the electrolyte content in my blood. It was a small bag containing only 100 ml, but it was metered to infuse at the rate of 33.4 ml per hour so it required me to sit in the chair for 3 hours after the blood letting and this was followed by a visit with Abby. We didn't get home until after 1:00 PM. This visit on Friday was the first of 2 visits per week (Tuesdays and Fridays), which will continue until after the CMV virus has not been seen for 2 consecutive visits. I have a few days off, not having to go back until Tuesday.
In the meantime I continue to feel good and have no real complaints except the edema in my lower legs won't go away. When I got up this morning my legs appeared to be back to normal size, but by the time I had dressed and gone downstairs to put my boots on the swelling had returned and I could not get the boots on. I have been sleeping with my feet elevated higher than my heart (and head) and have stopped eating any salt on my food, but the swelling persists. Dr. Tricot said he didn't want me to take any diuretics because of the possible damage to my kidneys so I will have to just wait for it to go away naturally.
