Yesterday's visit to the BMT clinic was brief; after taking my vital signs the only other activity was a blood draw and a wait for results, which showed hemoglobin on the border line and I may need a shot of something when we go back Friday. My edema has almost gone away; I can wear my boots again , but there was some swelling last night because of a hectic day and being on my feet most of the day.
The big excitement was thanks to Emma. She fell off a ladder in the upper garage about noon yesterday and broke her left leg just above the ankle, which was badly dislocated. Karen and I got her into the car and took her to the Emergency Room at St. Marks Hospital where they started giving her morphine for the pain and later the ER doctor straightened the ankle so that x-rays could be taken and so that the orthopoedic surgeon could better work on the fractures. Both bones just above the ankle bone were broken and he had to use a plate with 8 or so screws on the Fibula because it had what he described as a butterfly break. And then he put 3 screws through the Tibia to repair that break.
They want to keep her in the hospital for 3 or 4 days, but we have a wedding dinner to go to Friday evening and a wedding reception Saturday night (Eric, Nancy's youngest son, is getting married Saturday morning). We already missed (or al least 2 of us did) the latest performance at the Pioneer Memorial Theatre; A Chorus Line, which Emma insisted that I go to and Karen insisted that she had to remain at the hospital with her Mother. So I did go with our friends the Sorensons and enjoyed the show very much. but felt guilty all the way through.
When the surgeon came in to tell us what the operation was going to be like I asked him if he could have Emma ambulatory by 7:30 (show time). We all had a good laugh and his response was that she probably will still be in surgery by then. I suppose the blog will be more for the purpose of keeping you posted on her progress instead of mine, unless something unexpected comes up.
Karen went to the hospital to stay with Emma this morning while I went to the airport to pick up Judy who came for the wedding and did not expect to find her Mother in the hospital with a broken leg. I am happy to have the 2 girls here to help with Emma's confinement and perhaps to help get her home. More later.

Somehow I lost your Blog site and just found it again today. (Had tried to email you too.) We are still "hangin in" (or "hanging on"), though not moving around as quickly as we used to do. I too am borderline anemic and get a weekly shot for it, but its been 17 years since my bout with "C" so I feel pretty lucky. Best regards to all of you. Earl
