Today is the first day of the current second maintenance cycle and I am happy to report that the Physcian's Assistant on duty today (Andrea) told me that my bloodwork is showing consistent moderate improvement and they are quite happy for me to continue with the drug protocol that I have been following since November 23. I had to have the pharmacy fill my prescription for cyclophosphamide (the "caution: Handle Only With Gloves" oral chemo drug) because they wouldn't do it on the 15th when I had 5 other prescriptions filled. Jennifer came and told me while I was waiting to see Andrea that it would be ready for me and, to my surprise, it was. I told the nurses and Andrea about my sickness the night after my flu shot and the consensus seemed to be that it more likely was a bout of 24-hour flu rather than a reaction to the shot, but it lasted more than a day and one of the nurses aides said she had the same kind of reaction after her flu shot. The upshot was that I then asked about a swine flu shot and, after completing a questionaire, I was given the shot. I will now wait to see if I have a reaction to it, but will be prepared with one or the other of my 3 anti-nausea pills just in case.
I am unhappy to report that Amelia (the prettiest nurse) has departed for a more demanding position in the cancer ward at Primary Childrens Hospital and has been replaced by a 40+/- male nurse. Amelia had only been at the Huntsman Institute for about 2 years and thinks the move to Primary where she will be treating children with all sorts of childhood cancer will help complete her education as a nurse. I was introduced to her replacement, Scott, who does not beautify the infusion room.
