January 14 visit to BMT

The storm predicted yesterday had no effect on traffic this morning and I arrived at the clinic 15 minutes earlier than I did on Monday after having left home 10 minutes earlier. They were so happy to see me that I was almost immediately taken in for vital signs and then seated in the Infusion room for my Velcade shot, which was ready within minutes. I could have been home by 9:30 except I had to wait at the Pharmacy to have 5 prescriptions re-filled. It was a shock to see how much more expensive the drugs are now that I no longer benefit from having passed through the Medicare drug "donut hole." I also waited to learn whether I could have a flu shot, which they finally gave me for regular flu and told me to ask about swine flu when I return on Jan. 25 for the start of the next maintenance cycle. I got a print out of the blood test for Myeloma markers and saw that the kappa free light chains were at 42 mg/dL, which is down 10 mg/dL from the level 2 weeks ago. I continue to think that this marker is fluctuating but with a downward trend and may eventually get to less than 1 mg/dL.

Emma is doing great, she has been out twice since I wrote the last blog and is planning to go out to coffee with her aquasize buddies tomorrow morning. But the incision has not closed up yet and she still can't go back in the pool.
