BMT clinic Thursday and Dermatologist Friday

The traffic on Foothill Blvd Thursday morning was the slowest that I have seen since a few of the very snowy days last winter. I left early and got to the hospital so late that I decided to use the valet parking, but there were no valet attendants on hand and the circle was full of cars waiting to be parked. So I drove down to the parking garage and found a space and got into the lobby about 5 minutes late. It was a much busier day than the usual Thursday so I had to wait for my vitals to be taken but once I got into the Infusion room my Velcade shot was ready and I left just before 10:00.

My session with Dr. Horsley yesterday lasted about 40 minutes during which he excised both of the skin cancers that he had cut off on the October 18 visit. He first marked the area he wanted to cut out with a pen and then injected the novocaine-like anesthetic at several places near each of the skin cancers. This was the only painful part of the process somewhat similar to a dental visit but more pricks with the injection needle. He said that the cancer on my cheek was a very aggresive variety and he needed to take quite a bit of flesh to be sure he had it all out. That wound continued to bleed after I got home and I didn't know it until a cashier in the store where I went to buy a few things handed me a damp wipe and told me that blood was running down my cheek. I go back in one week to have the stitches removed from the cheek wound and in two weeks to have the stitches in my arm removed. He decided after the visit on the 18th that I should come back in 6 months instead of in a year as I had just done.

Emma only went to her aquasize class 3 times this week and she commented this morning that she needs to go more often because the exercise she gets in the pool helps with the flexibility in her ankles (both ankles swell up when she sits a lot; her having broken the right leg 16 years ago). I don't remember problems with swelling in the right leg prior to the left leg break last year and she didn't complain about stairs then, which she does now.
