Dr. Horsley called me yesterday morning before I left for the BMT clinic at the Hunstman Hospital; he wanted to know what medications I take that might cause or prolong bleeding. He said that both the growths that he removed last Monday are cancerous and need to be excised and the one on my cheek is a particularly invasive type. When I told him what medications I take he asked me to find out if and when I would be able to stop taking the Lovenox injection.
The session at the clinic was routine for the first day of a new cycle. I see a PA on the first day and yesterday a new PA, Amanda, was learning the ropes, she came in first and asked whether I needed any prescriptions refilled and volunteered to call the pharmacy. I then asked her about the Lovenox schedule. I had previously asked the nurses, but they told me I would have to ask Abby, the regular PA for that day. Amada didn't know the answer, but when Abby came in she said I could stop the injection either for 24 hours or for 48 hours and I would have to ask the dermatologist what his preference was. Abby brought with her a printout of my blood work and said that it looked good except my platelet count is somewhat low and that probably helps account for my general lack of energy whenever I try to do anything strenuous. Nurse Malene gave me my Velcade shot right after Abby left and I was free to leave. The prescription was ready at the pharmacy, which is quite unusual, and I got home before 11:00 and before Emma got home from the aquasize class.
I was busy with assorted chores and errands all day and didn't get arround to calling Dr. Horsley until early afternoon today. I told his aide what I had learned about the Lovenox at the BMT clinic and she was off the phone for quite some time, but when she came back she said that I should stop the Lovenox on both Wednesday and Thursday. My appointment for the excision is at 11:40 Friday.
