Very slow visit at the clinic today because of a lot of patients ahead of me, and I guess I was expected at 10:00 instead of the 10:30, the time that my Patient Coordinator had told me come when I called her after I got home from St. Mark's hospital last Wednesday. Nancy had a day off from school today and came to drive me to the clinic because Emma is exceptionally tired from lack of sleep due to my early rising to start an infusion of antibiotic. I get up before 7:00 AM and don't go to bed until after 11:30 PM and I don't sleep very well after the first bathroom visit during the night. I can see th end of this in sight, however only 3 more mornings. I have told Emma that she doesn't need to get up so early and she can go to bed when she feels sleepy, but she wants to be sure that I haven't fallen or had some other trouble. The primasix infusions are
gravity fed into a line in my port and I need to lie on the couch while it is flowing in at a rate that should take only 30 minutes to finish, but seems to take at least 40 minutes every time. I sometimes dose off during this infusion and can catch up some more sleep during the day.
I had expected to resume the chemo drugs today, but Abby (PA) told me that she thought I should be observed for another week before starting the chemo. They had scheduled me for an Aredia infusion today and she said that my bloodwork showed that an Aredia infusion would take only 2 hours and I could do it today or next week when the chemo is resumed. It was nearly 1:00 and I felt that Nancy had sacrificed enough of her day off so we didn't stay for the Aredia, but we did stay long enough for an infusion of a diuretic that should reduce the edema in my lower legs and feet, which is so bad that I cannot get my boots on. Dr. Tricot wouldn't let hem give me a diuretic when my edema was very bad early during the treatment cycle because of its effect on my kidneys and had me sleep with my feet higher than my head. I had forgotten this treatment and tried it last night and when I got up early I thought that my ankles and feet appeared normal but when Abby saw them she looked at the bloodwork report again and decided that the diuretic wouldn't hurt my kidneys. I was given one while at St. Mark's and it was quite effective, but excessive fluids continue to be infused into me and this infusion of diuretic should help.
