My visit to the BMT clinic today did not go as I had anticipated it would. Perhaps because of my appearance; the left side of my face was swollen and partly covered by large bruises that had happened as a result of me falling from one of the 2 steps from our garage down to the deck and landing on my left side Saturday night. The nurses or nurses aides walked me every where I needed to go and when Abby saw me prior to the bone marrow biopsy she decided that I should have a CT scan of my head to determine whether there was any accumulation of blood within my skull. She was surprised to learn that I had not gone to an ER for examination Saturday night, but I had not had any headaches or much pain and had thought that I was not injured badly.
Today's visit was different in several ways; Normally they would have put a line in my port for the blood draw and then left it in for the later Velcade shot, but today the blood was drawn from a needle in my arm and when I got back to the Infusion room from my more than 30 minute wait in Radiology for the CT scan I was told they were going to skip the chemo until after I see Dr. Tricot on Friday. This meant in addition to skipping the Velcade shot I would take no Cyclophosphamide tonight. Dr. Tricot is away until Thursday so these decisions were not based on advice from him and perhaps only on my general appearance. The technician who did the CT scan asked whether I had an appointment with my doctor to learn the results of the scan and then said that she would let Abby know the results. Abby told me before I left that she would call me with the results and did so an hour or so after I got home; the CT scan was normal. I had a rather long wait in Pharmacy and could not get the Thalidomide prescription filled because there was no doctor available with the authority to sign the prescription and I only have one capsule left so will not be taking it until after I go the clinic on Friday for the appointment with Dr. Tricot.
