My visit to the BMT clinic today was marked by much waiting for a few procedures. Traffic was slowed by lane blockages, but an early start got me there before my appointment time, but then I waited to be weighed and then waited for my other vitals to be taken as Elaine was inserting the line in my port and drawing a single vial of blood. This entailed additional waiting for results before the Velcade shot and further waiting because I had been told that I would be getting an infusion of Aranesp. Humana had rejected the Aranesp every previous time it had been prescribed by Dr. Tricot and this was no exception. With previous rejections I would get copies of the rejection letters along with an invitation to appeal the rejection, but with the statement that my condition did not warrant the Aranesp. I asked the nurses about the reason for the rejection and was told that they give the Aranesp when the hemoglobin count is above 10g/dL and mine today was 9.7g/dL and last week it had been 8 something and maybe next week it will be above 10 and they will be allowed to give me the Aranesp. I rather doubt it however because my condition has not changed much and I expect Humana to prevail again.
Much concern has been expressed about my tendency to fall producing visible bruises, these not covered by clothing are fading, but Abby has a long memory and because she saw one just above my waist last Monday suggested today that she should write an order forbidding me to do any more yard work. I didn't pursue this and don't know whether she intended the order to be given to Emma and if not who could enforce such an order.
