Much ado about a dizzy spell

When I was at the BMT clinic a week ago I told, Elaine, while she was emplacing the line in my port, about a strange experience I had had on the previous Thursday while I was on my way to a grocery store. As I turned into the parking lot I suddenly started to feel somewhat disoriented and this feeling got progressively more intense as I continued to drive. I began scraping the curb at the edge of the parking lot with the right side wheels and I had the sensation that the car was so tilted to the left side that when I finally got parked I got out to see if the left side tires were flat, which they were not. I felt very weak and shaky and leaned against the car for several minutes until the driver in the car next to me got out and spoke to me. He was the leader of the golf group that I played with until this illness struck me. When he asked how I am doing I told him about my dizzy spell and that I doubted that I could drive home. He offered to drive me home in our car and then have Emma drive him back to the store and I eagerly accepted his offer. After getting home I hasd to rest on the couch for a couple of hours before I recovered. I have had a few dizzy spells in the last couple of months where the room seemed to be spinning but these only lasted a short time, seconds or minutes at the most and have never had a prolonged spell like the one on the 10th. Elaine then told other nurses and word got to Abby and an appointment was made for me with the Cardiology clinic at the Univ. of Utah hospital for last Thursday.

While waiting through a 2-hour stay at the Cardiology clinic I was subjected to an EKG as well as many questions about my on-going treatment and medications at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. When I finally saw the Cardiologist (Dr. Jack Morshedzadeh--Iranian, perhaps) I was told that the EKG appeared normal, but perhaps indicated a slow heart beat and also that the dizzy spell might be attributable to an inner ear problem. He told me that I should wear a heart monitor for the next 48 hours and that I should come back the next day for an appointment, which I expected to be with the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) clinic but instead when I got there it was for a sonic scan of my heart. I could return the monitor at my convenvience, which I did after a very long session at the BMT clinic today. The lady on the phone at the Cardiology clinic told me that I would be called with the results of tests, but she didn't say when and Dr. Jack asked to see me in 3 months so I guess there isn't much urgency about the dizzy spells.

I told the nurses at the BMT clinic this morning about the Cardiology appointment and Dr. Jack's suggestion that the dizzy spells might be due to an inner ear problem and in just a few minutes Derek, my coordinator came to tell he had arranged an appointment for me with the ENT clinic at the U. of U. hospital for next Tuesday morning. In some ways the BMT clinic is very swift, but not today because I was given an Aredia infusion, which I should have had last week, and I didn't get out of the clinic until just before 4:00 PM.
