Today was a little different from most Mondays that begin a month. The traffic was light, there was no attendant at the parking garage when I arrived just before 10:00--although he was there when I left at noon--and there were a lot of patients waiting, but there were empty chairs in the Infusion Room. Oliver, one of the 2 male nurses, weighed me and then seated me in the Infusion Room to take the rest of my vitals, place the line in my port and draw blood. He told me I would not have the scheduled visit with one of the PAs because she had a cold and did not want to get that close to any patient and wondered if a visit next Monday would be acceptable. I told him that I had a couple of questions for a PA that probably couldn't be answered by a nurse so he called Amanda. She soon appeared to answer one of the questions about a spot on the lower lid of my right eye.
Emma has worried about this spot for more than a week and has wanted me to call a doctor, but I didn't know what sort of doctor I should call, perhaps a dermatologist or an eye specialist. Amanda asked if it was painful or bothered me in any way and when I told her that the eyelid itches sometimes and there may be more tears from the right eye than the left, but otherwise no pain, she told me I should continue to watch it somewhat longer, inasmuch as it doesn't hurt, and then call a doc6tor that I trust and like.
The results of the bloodwork were available shortly after a sandwich had been delivered and Oliver then gave me the Velcade infusion and I was ready to leave just before noon. I took the sandwich home intending to share it with Emma, but found she had not yet come home from her aquasize class. And then I remembered that it is her birthday and she most likely was being entertained by her swimming buddies, which indeed was the case. She had received one congratualatory call after she had left for class so I shouldn't have been surprised to see that she hadn't returned. She had many more calls during the rest of the day and some birthday cards in the mail. I suggested that I take her out to dinner; her counter suggestion was that we eat at home because we had a combination Easter-Birthday dinner yesterday at Nancy's home and we are going out tomorrow. So it became an evening of rest and viewing a successful Utah Jazz basket ball game. She continues to enjoy good health.
