Too busy to enjoy this "vacation" so far

When I was ready to leave the clinic last Monday Camille put a sticker in my notebook that showed I have an appointment with Dr. Atanackovic on September 23 and she said I could get a printout of my schedule for September from the registration desk on my way out.  I did that but when I got home and studied the schedule I found that I don't go to the clinic on September first, but on the second and it doesn't call for a 24-hour urine collection until the 14th and no bone marrow biopsy or any kind of scan prior to seeing Dr. Atanackovic on the 23rd.  This is so different from all previous preparations for an appointment with the oncologist that I called the clinic for an explanation.  The change from the 1st to the 2nd is because the first is a holiday; the other changes will have to be explained by Dr. Atanackovic/.

I have been bothered for months by excessive tearing in my right eye, which I think is an allergic reaction to some undetermined pollen or dust in the air, but when I mentioned the tearing to Dr Fassio when Emma and I both visited him for our annual checkup on July 3 he told me that the dripping from my eye is not excessive tearing but pooling of the tears due to a blockage of a duct that allows the tears to drain into my throat.  He said this could be corrected by an operation, which sounded very unpleasant to me.  I later learned on the Internet that a rather simple procedure might correct the problem so after another 4 weeks of coping with the dripping I called Dr. Fassio's office and made an appointment  to have my eye looked at again on August 12. The "procedure" seemed simple enough and was not very painful and when he used some cool liquid to flush the widened return duct I could feel the liquid in my throat.  The dripping continues, but is much reduced and perhaps when the prescribed medication is used up in another week it will cease altogether.

I saw Dr. Kuo for a semi-annual checkup on August 7 and while there I had him look at my feet at Emma's request because the nails on my big toes have been discolored ever since they resumed growing after the initial chemo.  He said the discoloration, which is/was a thickened white coating, looks to be a fungus and recommended that I see a podiatrist.  I found four listings of podiatrists or foot clinics in our Humana Network booklet and made an appointment with the Utah Foot & Ankle Clinic for last Wednesday at 3:30.  Dr. Christian Goebel looked at my toes and said that they appear more or less normal for a person my age. He then told me that Medicare will only approve podiatrist's services on feet damaged by diabetes; other treatment is regarded as cosmetic, but I had already given his receptionist my $40 copay so he trimmed my nails ground the discolored parts from my big toenails and massaged my feet and said that his office visits only cost $30 and suggested that I come back every 2 or 3 months for a treatment, which he said quite a few of his patients do.  I liked the massage but didn't like the grinding of the nail on my right big toe because he went through the nail into the flesh and it still hurts to walk.

We are going over to Longmont, CO., next week for an annual review of our individual trusts.  There have been a number of changes in tax laws that can affect the trusts and we have been asked to attend the review this year.  We have been excused for some reviews, but Judy directed us to come this year.  We are going to go in the pickup and take 2 days for the trip in each direction.  We go in the pickup because we have been storing in our upper garage for about 20 years 2 mountain bikes that belonged to Justin's parents.  We used them only one time in August 2000 when we took them to Island Park, Idaho, for an early family celebration of our fiftieth wedding.  I thought about renting a car top carrier for the Lexus but then realized that the bikes can be carried in the back of the pickup and locked secure from would be thieves when we overnight in a motel.
