Presented a sorry sight at the clinic this morning and nobody would believe that I had been in a bar fight

I had surgery on my eyelids Friday afternoon at the Utah Surgical Center by Matheson A. Harris an Oculoplastic Surgeon.  It was relatively painless and I declined a prescription for Lortab as a pain killer.  I have used Tylenol and haven't needed much of that.  The most disagreeable thing about the experience thus far is that I am supposed to sleep in a reclining position at an angle of 30 to 40 degrees with my head up and to continue to do so for a week to speed the healing and reduction of swelling around the eyes.  I put saline eye drops in as often as I feel the need and use a Erythromycin ointment on the incisions 3 times a day according to instructions at the Center, but 4 times a day according to instructions in the paper that came with the medicine.  I also had to be driven to and from the Center, which Nancy did inasmuch as it was her Spring break.  And Emma did today going to and from the BMT clinic.  We were to be there at 8:30 and the traffic was very bad along  Foothill Blvd, which made us 10 minutes late.  I wore my dark glasses but that didn't deceive anybody about the reason for black bruises beneath each eye.  A possible side benefit of the surgery is improved eyesight.  I can read without glasses, but I see shadows beside each letter (double vision, which may clear up with continued healing).

Vivien was my nurse today for the first time; she has been there for quite awhile, but not working on me.  Emma noticed her and wondered how long she had been there and thought her not as speedy as some of the other nurses.  All of them that saw my face wanted to know how  got the black eyes and none would believe that I had been in a bar fight.  Emma told them that she had done it trying to keep me in line and I doubt that anyone believed that.  Vivien didn't know that I usually have blood drawn on the third Monday of each cycle, but I had my new schedule with me to show that I do so and she got the 2 vials for blood and proceeded  to draw 2 vials and send it off for analysis.  I then waited until after the young lady came to take orders for sandwiches for lunch;  I told her to ask Vivien if I would he here long enough and Vivien told her to take my order, which was for a ham sandwich,  She then asked if Emma wanted one, but I told her we would share one.  The sandwiches came about the same time that Vivien told us that the Velcade had been made and would soon be delivered and it was so we put the sandwich aside and brought it home with us.  The kitchen makes sandwiches so large that I cannot eat all of one.
