My appointment today was at 9:30 so I got up a half hour earlier than usual and was able to get to the registration desk right on time. Traffic was relatively light and there seemed to be a lot of parking space available. Registration was somewhat slowed by an agent I had not seen before and she wanted to see my insurance card and a picture ID, nither of which had I produced for many moons. Craig found me in the hallway waiting area and took me in for weighing and then in to the Infusion room for the rest of my vitals. My blood pressure was different from the usual results in that it was 139 over 89; the upper number is usually about 120 ranging up to 140, but I have never seen the lower number above 80 before and it usually is close to 60. Sara, my nurse for the day, was soon ready to put a line in my port and to draw 2 vials of blood, which she sent to the lab and then the real waiting began. About 10:30 she told me the lab results look good and that the Velcade had been ordered, but it was not delivered until after I received a sandwich about 11:30 that I had been told to order about 11:00 with the word that I could take it home if the Velcade arrived early. It almost never does and this puzzles me because I wait on those days that they don't draw any blood and they don't change the amount that I get and they never fail to give it to me.
When I met with Mary Steinbach 2 weeks ago she told me that she was going to try to get my appointments scheduled at times that would be more conveient or acceptable for me. This has not yet happened and I don't know when it might; pehaps not until after I meet with Dr. Atanackovic again, which probaably won't be until September. I go in again next Monday, but at 10:30, when I am to have an Aredia infusion lasting 4 hours in addition to the Velcade, which probably will be administered after the infusion. There won't be any blood drawn and if they are prompt about starting the infusion I could get out before 3:00 and avoid the after-school University traffic. But I won't count on it because of the innate slowness I often am stuck in traffic even with the 1:00 PM appointments.
