I was asked to come in at 10:30 yesterday, which was simple enough; I set the alarm for 7:45, which would allow more than enough time and then woke up before 7:30 my normal time to get up on the Monday mornings that I am supposed to go to the clinic. I forgot to turn the alarm off and it persisted until Emma also got up.
I got to the clinic about 10:25, registered and then waited until 11:00 for Laurie to come get me for weighing and vitals. More waiting was to come even though no blood was to be drawn, but the Velcade had been ordered. One of the ladies from the registration desk came around about 11:30 to take orders for sandwiches for lunch so I went ahead and ordered because I had seen no sign that I would be leaving soon. The sandwich was delivered about 11:45 and the Velcade didn't come until noon; it only took a couple of minutes to infuse it and then remove the line from my port, which had been placed after the Velcade had arrived. I walked out of the clinic at 12:05 and got home to find that Emma had gone to a lunch with her acquasize buddies so I saved half the sandwich for another day.
Today was more of the same. I had been told yesterday that I should come early for my meeting with Dr, Atanckovic scheduled for 12:45. And then shortly after Emma got home we received a phone call from Bethany to ask me to come at 12:15 for my appointment with the doctor. We got there about 12:16, registered immediately and then sat in the waiting area until after 1:00 because they only have 2 exam rooms available for such meetings and both were in use when we got there. We didn't see the doctor until abpout 2:00 because of various delays waiting on a nurse or a PA or on Carol, one of the patient coordinators, When we did visit with Dr. Atanckovic he said that my markers have stayed low and level and he sees no reason to change anything. So I will continue on my schedule of four consecitive Monday visits followed by two Mondays off. Blood will continue to be drawn on the first and third Mondays with a Velcade infusion of the same volume every Monday. The Myeloma markers will be determined only once every three months, both from blood work and 24-hour urine collections.
We didn't leave the clinic until 2:30 and didn't get home until after 3:00 because I had left my good jacket in the waiting room at Hillside Tire when I went in this morning to have the Lexus serviced. I had called them soon after getting home and they were glad to know who the jacket belonged to. We went by their store on the way home to get the jacket to account for the late arrival home.
