The Martin Luther King holiday resulted in very light traffic, which allowed me to get to the Huntsman Hospital parking garage a few minutes early for my 10:30 AM appointment. But the garage was so full that I circled around twice before I spotted a handicap space opposite the doors to the elevator lobby; somebody must have pulled out while I was circling, and I got to the registration lobby right at 10:30. Nobody was waiting in the hallway waiting area and the only registrar took me right in to the Infusion Room, which was almost empty and, where Camille greeted me and took me out for weighing. She then seated me in Chair #1 and Craig finished my vitals and reported that my blood pressure was 120/69; much closer to where it is normally. Camille placed a line in my port, drew 2 vials of blood, and sent them off to the lab. I expected rapid results in view of the few patients but the Velcade wasn't ready for infusion until after 12:00. When Camille had completed the infusion I remarked that the small number of patients (3 in chairs and one in a bed) must have persuaded them not to offer sandwiches for lunch. She immediately offered to call for one, which I declined because I was expecting to find the cleaning lady when I got home where I could relieve Emma for her errands.
The latest of the non-performances. The earliest would be Francesca not preparing the new schedule showing another cycle prior to seeing Dr. Atanackovic. Some of the non-performance can be laid on my head: because I lost the chart of exercises that I had been given by the physical therapist on my visit to the Univ. of Utah Orthopaedic Center last Tuesday. My knee had been x-rayed and examined by Dr. Willick who then told me that inasmuch as the pain had been gradually declining there were several options for treating the pain: 1) do nothing, 2) wear a protective sleave on the knee, 3) under take some physical therapy, which would speed the healing. I opted for therapy and was sent to the Therapy section to register and fill out forms to locate the pain and its intensity. Therapist Whitney Meier met me in the gym and with her helper (trainee?) Ally selected some exercises, printed them on a 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper and walked me through all of them and told me I could choose whether to just work at home on my own or come back at some time for follow up. I have an appointment to go back on January 29. But I have lost the sheet of paper and although I remember all the exercises I do not remember the number of times I should do each exercise. When I told this story to Camille and that I have not been able to reach Whitney to ask for a replacement sheet (non-performance ?) she suggested that I just do them until I get tired.
No non-performance by Home Health Care, but a decision that I probably don't need it and I can't have physical therapy by them and also by the Orthopaedic Center because Medicare will only pay for one. Their physical therapist was here Thursday and after watching me walk told me my right leg is weaker than the left and I should use my cane in my left hand and I should use it whenever I walk even in the house. She was the first to tell me I can't have it both ways.
